Flagstone and brick terraced garden
This was a fairly small garden belonging to a beautiful old cottage. The original garden was on a fairly steep slope and the client's brief was to add terraces using brick walling, paths and steps. The paved areas were laid using Old Millstone grey flagstones, which complemented the old character of the cottage. Random brick inserts were added for a more rustic feel.
The beautiful midsummer photo was taken more than two years after construction and it really shows off the garden in its prime. The clients are excellent gardeners and they have carefully planted up the borders themselves.

Contemporary re-landscaping of large garden
This was a modern house with a large garden backing on to a lake.
The design was contemporary. Terraces were installed on the existing sloped ground using a mix of new timber sleepers and rendered blockwork. A circular paved seating area suitable for a garden table and chairs was put in, overlooking the garden with a lovely view down towards the lake. Lighting was incorporated into the timber sleeper walls and a contemporary water feature was installed.

Large outdoor entertaining space
This client had just completed a large extension to their family home, which had extended over their existing crazy-paved patio area. The brief was to reinstate a large paved area using Indian sandstone paving, incorporating steps up to a separate terrace. A large brick retainer wall had to be built and a beautiful drilled monolith stone water feature installed.

Indian sandstone paved area with raised planters
The spec for this family garden was the removal of an existing concrete paved area and the provision of a new patio using Indian sandstone, edged with sandstone setts. The large rendered planters incorporated a seating area and lighting.

Brick paved back garden
The owner of this Victorian style house in Reading wanted a garden with plenty of character, a large seating terrace and an undulating lawn to provide some interest.
The last photo in this set gives a hint of how this garden was on our arrival. It was overgrown and had been neglected for many years. The first job was to clear the garden, which was very flat and mostly laid to lawn. A small pond was already in place. The construction was mainly brick, with interlinking brick terraces and pathways. A sunken seating area and fire pit were built and the soil was re-graded and re-turfed.

Large raised decked area, safe for children
Following construction of a large conservatory, the client wanted a child-friendly area of decking adjoining the back of the house. Due to the existing ground levels, the construction of the base frame was fairly detailed.
The deck area was edged using timber ballustrading and machine-round timbers were used on the front face of the deck. The client requested circular steps and for these, we used a mix of machine-round timbers and sandstone setts.
